EEAB - ECOLE D'ETÉ D'ARCHITECTURE DE BELGIQUE 2023

—DAY I ~ Arrival & Introduction—

Ah, here I am! Before the things get started I lurk in the teaching room taking this short clip. Everything is set, the dice is cast, no turning back: LET THE SUMMER SCHOOL BEGIN!

On a rainy day the students start arriving in Bellem. The Kasteel Mariahove welcomes them warmly with Nadia, Noè and Riccardo taking care of the needs of the newcomers.
As always, there is much to do with the settling of the participants: transport from the various arrival stations, leaving the baggage in the own rooms, groceries... and of course, getting to know each other and the place! Mariahove is a very large estate with a mansion and a number of dépandances.
For more information on this, you can refer to the blogging of the previous edition.

These are the pictures I received from the first day:

We have an extraordinary cultural diversity among the students, with participants from Finland, France, Mongolia, Romania, Ukraine, England, Estonia, Ireland, USA, India and of course Belgium! Plus a student or two that experienced visa problems and are still struggling to get there.

This is the first official moment of the Summer School, where students and tutors introduce themselves, envisioning their views and their attitude.

We proceed with the examination of TRA's previous works - the Round Table of Architecture in defence of Traditional Architecture, this is to allow the students to see the "proportions" of what they will be doing and put it into a context and perspective.

After this, seeing the tiredness on the faces of the students, often coming after extenuating flights from the antipodes, dinner time is proclaimed. The first day comes to an end with a happy eating together, Sunday is in sight as the ideal decompression day to peek in Bruges, waiting for the situation to heat up on Monday!
Have a good week-end and see you at the next post, where we will meet more closely with the organizers.
